Obituary of Shirley R. Paige

Shirley R. Paige was born to Sam Graham and Alice Rogers in Lake City, South Carolina. Shirley was raised in a loving home by Hugh and Alice Rogers in South Philadelphia in a close knit community fondly remembered as the "Kater Street gang". Shirley graduated from South Philadelphia High School. After high school, she moved to New York to pursue a modeling career. In 1966, Shirley met and married the love of her life, Charles Paige, Sr. They proudly and joyfully raised four children: Sharon, Heather, Zachary and Tanya. Together they built a home and a successful trucking company, Z & T Trucking. Later, Shirley pursued a new career where she enjoyed many years as a Dealer and Pit Boss at one of the top casinos and most recently was an employee at Walmart. Shirley was a member at Bethany Baptist Church where she served as an usher and enjoyed many sermons and bible studies. On any given day, she could be found doing some of her favorite things like cooking, fishing, gardening, walking her dogs and looking forward to the annual family reunions. She was affectionately known by many names, mom, mom-mom, grand mom, granny and Big Shirl. She could also be found at numerous events her grandchildren participated in. Some would say she was the soccer mom-mom of the year. She was their biggest cheerleader. She was a loyal Philadelphia Eagles football fan and enjoyed listening to the soulful sounds of Motown, her favorite being Gladys Knight & The Pips. Above all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley was a pillar of strength to her family as they looked to her for wisdom and guidance. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all. When Shirley arrived in heaven, waiting ti welcome her was her loving husband, her parents and two siblings, Winslow and Dennis. Shirley is survived by her children: Sharon (Kyle), Heather (Darryl), Zachary (Kelly) and Tanya (Lawyer). Memories will be cherished by her grandchildren, Danee, Serena, Zachary, Taylor and great grandchildren, Devon and Syane. She is also survived by siblings, Curtis, Shirley Jean, Benny, Ann, Carol, Sammy, patsy, Rosezna. Honorary sisters and children: Tyrone, Yvonne, Betty, Rosalie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great cousins, family members and friends.
