Obituary of Michael Steven Ramsey

Sunrise May 21, 1955 ~ Sunset June 30, 2019

Michael S. Ramsey was the youngest of three sons born to the late Lawrence Ramsey, Sr. and Delores E. Garrett Ramsey. He was born in Atlantic City , New Jersey and as a child became a faithful member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church and later became a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was a devoted member of the Disciples of Christ.

Michael, affectionately known as Mikey, attended New Jersey Avenue Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and Atlantic City High School. He received numerous athletic awards while in high school and went on to attend Hillsdale College on a football scholarship. Michael later transferred to Morgan State University where he received his B.S. in Physical Education.

Michael was a physical education teacher for over 35 years at Atlantic City High School. Teaching and coaching were his passion. While at ACHS, Michael was an assistant football coach and head track and field coach. He loved his students and the athletes he coached. Even in retirement, Michael volunteered as a tennis coach at Pleasantville High School.

Michael thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, and friends who were like family, laughing and joking. He also enjoyed golfing, tennis, and playing cards. Michael was a proud member of the Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., and a partner of Oasis, Inc. (a group of young entrepreneurs).

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brothers, Lawrence Ramsey, Jr. and Darryll Ramsey, Sr., his faithful dog Sergei, and his close friend, Steven M. Hicks, Sr.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sylvia S. Ramsey; paternal uncle, Marven F. Hill (B. Devolia Hill); devoted sisters-in-law, Felecia A. Trapp, and Francine D. Ramsey; beloved dog, Maxximus; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition, Michael leaves to mourn his loss close family friends, Robert E. Salad, Lorenzo Langford, Aaron Randolph, Rodney Brathwaite, Lloyd Barskdale, Wilbur Banks, Joel Clark, Charles Kiah, Pastor Brian Murray, and Neil and Cynthia Mason, who were always there for him.
