Obituary of Jerome Redd

Redd, Jerome Sr. lovingly called "Jerry", was born on May 1, 1942 to John Redd and Reverend Anna Drayon Holder in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sadly on Labor Day, September 6, 2010, Jerome Sr. transitioned from labor to eternal rest at the age of 68 years. Jerome Sr. was educated in Indiana as a youth. During his teenage years, his family migrated and settled in Newark, New Jersey. After graduating Central High School, Jerome Sr. joined the United States Army. During his tenure in the Army, Jerome became an accomplished Paratrooper. Shortly thereadter, "Jerry" married his high school sweetheart, Celestine "Tina" Walker. From this union, five beautiful children were born: Jerome Jr., Wayne, Deborah, Tyrone and Gordon. Upon completing his military career, Jerome Sr. never lost his passion for swimming and aviation. He went on to be employed as a general laborer in the construction industry for many years until his health declined. Jerome Redd Sr. has joined his parents in heavenly rest and is survived by: his children, Jerome Redd Jr. (Rosalind) of Willingboro, NJ, Wayne Redd Sr. (Marilyn) of Glendale, Arizona, Deborah Redd also of Arizona, Tyrone Redd (Mary) of Newark, NJ and Gordon Redd of Newark, NJ. Also left to cherish his memory are fourteen grandchildren: Shawn (Lynn), Brian, Michael, Jerome, Jatlin, Wayne Jr., Brandon, Kalen, Tarell, Tyrone, Tanisha, Marquis, Dominque, Shakeerah Redd and three great-grandchildren. Jerome Redd Sr. will also be sorely missed by a host of other family and friends. Services will be held 11am Monday, September 13, 2010, at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, 300 Penn Street, Riverton, NJ, where friends may call from 10am. Burial in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
