Obituary of Paul A Banks

Banks, Paul Abraham Jr. was born on March 13, 1931 to Paul Abraham Banks Sr. and Pearl Virginia Harris in Camden, NJ. Paul went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2010 with his loving family at his side. Paul affectionately known as Pauly Balls, Junie, Banksy, and Uncle Paul was the second of twelve children. He attended the Paulsboro school system until he was in the eighth grade. In 1949, Paul joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his tour of duty, Paul was honorably discharged in 1951 and was gainfully employed in Forge Metals. He also attended welding school in Chicago, Illinois and he later worked as a butcher at Campbell Soup until his retirement from thirty five years of service. In 1951, Paul met Doris Mae Myers, and they were united in marriage in 1953. From this union, eight children were born. Paul also was a faithful member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Riverton, NJ, and he also attended the Men's Federation. Paul enjoyed playing the lottery, going to the casino, transporting friends and family members, spending time with his family, especially his wife, Doris. He always had a smile on his face. Paul was preceded in death by: his son, Fred Henry Banks; four brothers, Robert, John, William and Freddy. He leaves to mourn his passing: a faithful wife, Doris M. Banks; seven children, Paul Abraham III, Derrick, Marion, Paula, Waverly (Sylvia), Jon and Aretia; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ronald and Donald (Theresa); five sisters, Anna Redd (Arthur), Jean Gardner, Darlene David, Gertrude Williams (Rob) and Shirley Graham; two sisters-in-law, Rose Myers (Teddy) and Elsie Kidd and other relatives and friends. Services will be held 11am Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Mt. Zion A.M.E., 300 Penn Street, Riverton, NJ, where friends may call from 9am. Burial in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church of Riverton or Samaritan Hospice of Marlton.
