Obituary of Delores E Johns

Delores Elaine Johns Jones was born the sixth child of thirteen, on August 24, 1930 to Merrill and Leah (Tatem) Johns. She departed this life on October 21, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by a beloved longtime companion, Arthur T. “Dick” Jones and eight of her siblings, Merrill “Reds” Johns, William “Winky” Johns, Lillian “Putty” Folks, Thomas Johns, George Johns, Tyrone Johns, Shirley Chappell and Julia Young. She attended the Palmyra school system and later held various types of employment. She was a resident of Delair for many years eventually returning to the family home in Palmyra. She was a woman of faith who trusted in God. Affectionately known as “Lolly” to all who knew her, she was a caring, giving, people person who was always ready to share whatever she had with others. She mothered and grandmothered family members as well as friends. Aunt Lolly was especially fond of and had a special bond with all of her nieces and nephews; spanning four generations, some who she spent much of her time caring for. She always kept up with them and wanted them around her. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by three generations of nieces and nephews who hurried to be with her, leaving work, school and their homes. Those who could not be there made constant calls and kept her in prayer. Lolly loved all of her sibling and was close to them. In life, she never gave up on anybody, family or friends. All felt comfortable in her presence. Lolly will be sadly missed by all of her family, extended family, close friends and her dog, “Diamond” who she said would stay with her to the end.
