Obituary of Ermey Garvey Allen

Ermey Garvey Allen, (affectionately known as "Deac" by his family and friends) was born June 5, 1924 to the late Anna Peaker Allen, Sr. in Kent County, Maryland. Army had two siblings, Gertrude Allen-O'Conner and Rudolph Allen, Jr. At an early age, Ermey's family relocated to Philadelphia, Pa where he was educated in the Philadelphia School System, he completed his education at Benjamin Franklin High School. Later, he worked for Royal Pioneer Box Company where he retired after forth years of employment. Dead joined Consolation Baptist Church where Bishop Alden A. Gaines is pastor and founder. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and served faithfully as the chairman of the Deacon Board for over twenty-five years (where he adopted the name "Deac"). Army loved to serve in the church and was awarded Chairman Emeritus of the Consolation Deacon Board in 1998. His dedication and love for the church was apparent through his heart felt prayers and songs. On any given Sunday, Deac could be found somewhere in the front of the church partaking in the spirit-filled services, where he would participate, cry, clap, dance and enjoy those good old-fashioned hymns. Deac was a strong male figure influence on the younger males of the church, one in particular that he took and raised as his won, Calvin Scott, Sr. Deac's home was affectionately known as the hang out spot between services when Consolation was located on South 24th Street. Deac would open up his home every Sunday after and between services for continued fellowship and hospitality. He was well known for his fried chicken and iced tea. He loved people, especially "his girls". He was an excellent listener and was very easy to talk to. He was very passionate about his love for Christ and his family. Dead truly loved the Lord. Dead Married his long time friend and companion, Ada Gaines-Dawson in 1995. Dead was called home to glory on June 16, 2009 in the Albert Einstein, Northern Division Hospital at 4:19 PM. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Ada Dawson-Allen; his sister Gertrude O'Conner; one brother-in-law, Edward Mills; his daughters, Loretta, Jackie, Paula (Robert), Ronay (John), Karen (James); one special God-son, Calvin Scott, Sr.; and a host of grandchildren, Great grandchildren, Great-Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Services will be held 10AM Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Consolation Baptist Church, 2500 Wharton Street, Philadelphia, PA, where friends may call from 9:00AM until 10:00AM. Burial in Rolling Green Memorial Park, West Chester, PA.
