Obituary of Shirley J. Currie

Shirley Juanita Currie was born on May 5, 1947 to the late Leroy Hawkins and Lois Hawkins. She began her life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and relocated to New Jersey in 1987 with husband and children. Shirley was the oldest of five beautiful children. She was educated by Philadelphia Public School system. She later returned back to school earning her degree at Temple University. She received Christ at a very young age she was a God fearing woman. Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She would do anything and give anything for her family and friends. She was full of laughter, love, energy and jokes for those who knew her loved and appreciated her dearly. Shirley’s passion for making crafts and cooking would make her light up with joy. Shirley found true love with Gene Currie Sr. at Simon Gratz High School. She married her best friend, soul mate and husband it was love at first sight. Shirley and Gene spent 50 years together they were inseparable. Like two peas in a pod you did not see one without seeing the other. Both Shirley and Gene did everything together. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Leroy Hawkins and Lois Hawkins, her brother Michael Hawkins and Leroy Hawkins and her son Shawn Currie. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving husband Gene Currie Sr., son Gene Currie Jr. (Migdalia), daughter Crystal Currie, grandchildren Shawn, Siani, Nasier, Jacques, and Caleb, great-grandchild Lailani, nephew Omar Hawkins (Loretta), siblings Gwendolyn Hawkins and Joyce Randolph (Michael) and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
