Obituary of Dorothy Jamieson
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Jamieson was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 16, 1928 and departed this life suddeenly on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 1:30am at home. She was 85 years old , waiting and preparing to celebrate her 86th birthday at the casino on Saturday.
Dorothy was born to Anne and Richard Jenkins, both from South Carolina and now deceased. She also had a brother, Richard Jr. and a sister, Geneva, also both deceased.
Dorothy grew up in Brooklyn, New York where she and her beloved husband "Bud" both attended school. Dorothy graduated high school and she often joked about how she turned 18 on August 16 and married "Bud"; her childhood sweetheart, on August 17, 1946. There were 5 children born during this marriage. Four are now deceased. They are Ronald, Lee, Larry and Victoria.
Dorothy worked for the New York City court system as a payroll clerk. She retired at the age of 60. She said, "I'm tired of walking up those _______steps and standing on that cold train platform. I quit".
Dorothy and Bud raised their children in Jamaica Queens, New York. They had a good life. If you saw one, you saw the other. Dot was a great host. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking. Her famous dishes were red rice and sausage; peas and rice and she made a mean seafood salad. Cooking to Dot was a labor of love. Often she would, out of the blue, just feed the neighborhood.
Dorothy was also known for her brutal honesty. She could be as loving as ever but watch out, for in the same momentum, she could switch to telling you about yourself, unfiltered. Some people loved her for her honesty and others fled from it. She shot from the hip.
Dorothy's pastime was to find a way to a casino, find a hot $5.00 machine with her casino crew; Aunt Josephine and Aunt May, now deceased.
Dorothy was a funny, outgoing person who enjoyed her life to the fullest. She was a loving wife, a caring mother and grandmother, loyal relative and friend to those she loved. She will be missed by many because to know her was to remember her.
She leaves to mourn, her only living daughter, Dyanne J. Jones (Albert Hines, fiance'); her grandchildren, Denise Greene, Lee Jr. (Datrice), Latoya Somerville (Marvin), Conisha Young, Desmon Jones, Deonna Williams (Jamel); her great-grandchildrenm, Aquan, Des Jr., Brielle, Daevon, Courtney, Jamel Jr., Darius, Jaelynn, Deontay, Javonna, Devin, Jaylen, Harlye and Janiya; special mention to be given to James Norris and Josephine Syphrett who was there with mom to the very end.
