Obituary of Bernice E. Jones

Please share a memory of Bernice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
God called home from labor to reward our mother, Mother Bernice Elaine Lindsey-Jones. Born on May 31, 1934 in Mantua, New Jersey, she was the youngest of 18 children and the last surviving child of John and Blanche Lindsey. She also had a twin, Bernard, who died shortly after his birth. Mother Bernice was raised in Camden, New Jersey at 242-244 Kaighn Avenue, Camden, New Jersey. She received her GED from Woodrow Wilson High Night School. From there, she attended nursing school where she received her LPN (licensed pratical nurse) license. Bernice was employed at Ancora State Hospital and at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. In 1962, she gave birth to a daughter, Rosalyn. In August of 1965, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Rudolph V. Jones, Sr. and to this union was born a son, Rudolph Jr. During her employment at Lourdes Hospital, she was stricken with a cerebral aneurysm and throughout the years she continued to experience multiple surgeries in which she survived. God spared her life continually, and when all hope was lost, she was always able to pull through. She was truly a walking miracle. Mother Bernice was such a gifted singer. At one time, she was apart of the singing group, "The Echoes of Heaven", where she was given the name, "The Song-Bord of South Jersey". She was also a faithful member of Victory Temple Community Church of God in Christ. She attended regularly until her health began to fail. Mother was also president of the Nurse's Unit and the Victory Temple Choir. Mother Bernice along with Mother Dorothy Turner and Mother Bertha Stephenson always worked together in the planning of various church functions, one of which was "Everybody's Birthday" and the yearly church picnic to Dorney Park. The three of them named themselves, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego". For 15 years, Bernice attended the Wiley Adult Daycare in which she was faithful in attending. She would ger herself dressed and ready and would be waiting at the door by 6:00am, when in fact they weren't due to arrive until 8:00am. Mother was such a sweet and loving person, all who knew her loved her. During the holidays, seeing to it that her grands and god-children received something from her was most important. Mother Bernice is survived by her devoted and loving children: her son, Rudolph Jones, Jr. and daughter, Rosalyn Grays; three grandchildren, Bryan, Karolynn and Leon Grays; one son-in-law, Bryan Grays; five god-children, Wanda, Tswago, Monecka Turner, Allan Lindsey, Latoya Hairston and Dorise' Stephens; her nephews, Elder Charles E. Giddins, Sr. and Elder Charles E. Giddins, Jr.; a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a very close and dear friend, who she treated like a son, Ronald McKnight and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
