Obituary of Blanche A Hunter

Please share a memory of Blanche to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Early Monday morning, December 16, 2024, at 12:37 AM, God Almighty, in His infinite wisdom, called his daughter Blanche Hunter from her earthly journey to eternal rest. Blanche Gloria“Cookie” Hunter was born January 15, 1935, in Boynton Beach, Florida, the third child of Cecil and Lillian Adderley. She was one of ten children, seven of whom lived to adulthood. The story goes that when Blanche was born, she was so tiny our father said he could hold her in the palm of his hand and called her his little cookie. Hence the name “Cookie” that stayed with her all her life. She was never known as Blanche. Cookie and her brother Calvin were known for bringing laughter and happiness to all they met. Family and friends remarked that they should have
been comedians.

Cookie received her early education (grades 1-8) at Boynton Elementary School. She graduated from Carver High School in Delray Beach, Florida, the High School for Black students. While in High School, she was an outstanding athlete, excelling in track and softball. She was the clean-up hitter on the school’s softball team. She was the winner of the shot-put event at every County Track Meet and ran third leg of the championship relay teams. She played saxophone in the High School Marching Band. Upon graduation from High School, she worked for one year as an assistant chef at Lucille and Otley’s Restaurant in Boynton Beach.

Beginning in the early 1950s, every summer the Adderley family travelled from Boynton to South Jersey to work. This is where Cookie met and fell in love with her future husband. Cookie was joined in holy matrimony to Milton Hunter, Jr. on September 11, 1954, at the West End Community Center, Moorestown, NJ officiated by her godfather, Bishop Noel Hastings.
From this union three children were born: two daughters, Veronica Lynn and Michele Renee, and one son, Michael Bernaard.

They resided in several towns in Burlington County, finally settling in Moorestown, NJ.

Cookie dedicated her life, not only to her own family, but continued the blessing to other families by caring for their children. In addition to being a crossing guard for Moorestown School System, Cookie became Momma #2 for the Leuliette boys Grant and Lance for all their formative years into adulthood.

Cookie was always involved in the church. Throughout her formative years, along with the rest of the Adderley children, Cookie was an active participant in the activities of the Boynton Beach Church of God., regularly attending Sunday School, Young Peoples Endeavor, and Sunday Night Service. One year she played the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus in the Annual Christmas
Program. As a young teenager, Cookie received Christ as her Lord and Savior, when she stood and professed her love of the Lord at the Church of God Annual Revival. When she made New Jersey her home, Cookie became a member of Jacob's Chapel AME
Church, Mount Laurel Township, New Jersey for approximately ten years. She then joined Trinity AME Church of Wrightsville, now Cinnaminson, under the pastorate of Rev. Daniel Gamble, where she remained until her death.

Her activities included faithful, dedicated service as Steward, a member of the Trinity AME Senior Choir, President of the Lay Organization, Women’s Day chairperson, Pastor’s Aide, Kitchen Committee, Alternate and Delegate to the New Jersey Annual Conferences for 35 years. She attended several AME General Conferences as a delegate. She also served as chaplain for
the Camden-Trenton Lay Organization.

Cookie was a 25-year breast survivor and never missed the opportunity to thank God for his blessing. She encouraged other breast cancer survivors.

One of Cookie’s many pleasures were riding, shopping, and spending time with her niece and
nephew Tywanna and Jack Adderley.

Cookie was predeceased by her parents Cecil and Lillian Adderley, sister Gladys, brother John Calvin Adderley, her husband Milton Hunter, Jr., her daughter Veronica Lynn Hunter and son Michael Bernard Hunter.

Cookie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter Michele Hunter, Sisters Beatrice Kelly (Nathaniel deceased), Lottie Patrick (Casey), Harriett Linda Adderley, brothers Cecil Adderley, Jr., and Ronald Adderley (Betty), sister-in-law Mary Hunter, godchild Leslie (Lanie) Groce; sons-by-choice Grant and Lance Leuliette and their mother, a special friend Mrs. Pat
Leuliette; eight nephews, eight nieces, and a host of relatives and friends.
