Obituary of Dora T. Stanton Butler

Dora Estella Rebecca Teresa Stanton Robinson Butler was born January 3, 1930, to the late Reverend William E. Stanton and Mrs. Gertude Stanton. Upon the death of Reverend Stanton in 1938, the family moved from Fair Hope, Alabama to High Point, North Carolina where she attended the Leonard Street Elementary School and William Penn High School, from which she graduated with Honors.
Mrs. Dora married James Clinton Robinson in 197 and to that union four children were born, Ralph, Jeanette, Olivia, and James Clinton Robinson Jr. In 1952, the family relocated to New Jersey. After ten years of marriage, she became a single parent, working at the mechanic overalls company. In 1958, she met and later married Charles Burl Butler of Delai New Jersey. Charles bought four additional children into her life and family, Margaret, Brenda, Charles Burl Butler Jr, and Ronald. Dora lovingly called them her Brady Bunch, "mine, His and Ours". In 1968, she joined the Bell Telephone Company. She Retired, with distinctive service, after twenty-five years Bell, now Verizon Telephone Company. While there, she created an extended family with her co-workers lovingly referred to as "The Bell Gil".
Aunt Dora, as she is called by all, joined Grant AME Church under the leadership of the Reverend Carl Wade in 1982. She Became an active member of the Usher Boad and Womens Missionary Society. She became the President of the Pastor's Aide, a member of the Mother Earth Senior Women's Ministry and an avid Aquacise(er)
under the leadership of the Reverend Lynda T. Rossmann. Sister Dora is known as the poet Laureate of Grant AME Church. She was affectionately known as the mother of the Church.
Dora, AKA Nana, died peacefully in her home December 19, 2023, at 11:40am in Atco, New Jersey. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles and sons Ralph 9Celeste deceased, Kaye), and Charles Jr. (Vaughn). She is survived by her six Children, Margaret, Jeanette, Brenda, Olivia (Kenneth), James Jr. (Pamela). and Ron. She leaves to Fulfill her legacy:32 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
She has two loving sisters-in-law, Sheila and Joanne Butler. She was blessed with a lifelong friend and devoted niece, Columbia DeAnn Stanton. She spent the last years of her life in the hands of a wonderful caregiver, Carrie Allen.
