Robert L. Martin, Jr. was born on August 24, 1967 to Theresa Morris -Martin and Robert L. Martin, Sr. Robert attended Berlin Township Elementary Schools and graduated from Boyd Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Robert graduated High School in 1985 and attended California State University of Sacrament0 where he studied and in 1989 received his Bachelor of Science Degree in communication. Throughout his life, Robert was a legendary basketball player and in college was given the nickname Robert “Money” Martin because his shot on the court was always “Money.” After graduating college in 1989, Robert played professional basketball all over the world in countries like Portugal, Spain, Germany and Italy just to name a few. Robert lived in Sacramento where he met and married his wife Antoinette Martin on May 15, 1999. After their union, Robert moved his wife and children to his home state of New Jersey.
Robert was an entrepreneur extraordinaire. He was skilled in developing lucrative partnerships and businesses. He owned and operated Daisy’s Boarding Home, Will’s Auto Group, and was the President and CEO of Martin Investments and Sparkles Blings and Things.
Since Robert was able to hold a football, the Dallas Cowboys has been his favorite team. His love of football led him to coach and eventually become President of the Interboro Golden Hornets. He proudly coached the Hornets little league football team to victory for many years. In 2017, Robert became President of the South Jersey Football League. He loved football, but more importantly loved mentoring and developing young people. Robert had a presence and personality that was legendary. Anytime he walked in a room, he filled it with his charisma and charm.
Robert was also known as “Rob Nice.” Not only for his competitive gaming skills, but because he was “nice” to everyone he encountered and had the ability to make people feel special individually and collectively.
Robert’s family meant the world to him, especially his children. He spent his life living and leading by example and would always tell people that being a father was what he was born to do. Somehow Robert managed to touch the heart of everyone he met. He will be dearly missed.
Robert was predeceased by a special cousin whom he cherished as his brother: Gregory Morris, Jr.
Robert leaves to mourn his mother: Theresa Morris-Martin; his father: Robert L. Martin Sr.; his wife: Antoinette Martin; six children: Robert L. Martin, III (Christy), Laquaya Martin, William Martin, J’lyn Martin, Tavian Martin and Xavier Martin; two grandchildren: Hope and Faith Martin; four brothers: Troy Martin, Quinn Martin (Amy), Terrence Martin and Jayden Martin; a special cousin whom he also cherished as his brother: Donald Hickson; his loving aunt: Margo Venable; two loving uncles: Wayne Morris and Frederick Keith Morris and a host of relatives and special friends.
