Geraldine M. Baynard was born, February 14, 1932, to the late Rosella and James Lloyd Scott, Sr. in Broykins, Virginia. Throughout her life she was loving called "Gerry" Her early education began in Virginia until the family moved to Palmyra, New Jersey in 1942. Gerry completed her schooling in the Palmyra school system graduating from Palmyra High Scholl in 1951. In 1951 Gerry met Melvin Baynard while dancing at Meadowbrook Hall. They fell in love and Married: through this union they were the proud parents of five children. She was a devoted Mother and strong advocate for their children. Gerry and Melvin were married for 57 years until Melvin was called home. Although quiet in nature and small in structure Geraldine had a big personality and an even bigger heart. She was a loving sister to her siblings Yvonne, Theodore, Jamie, Jennell, Jerel, and James Jr. She loved to dance she learned to " jitterbug" and spent many nights dancing with her family and friends during gatherings. Gerry was also a collector of poems and loved all types of music with the Temptations and Ella Fitzgerald being her favorite. After years of being a devoted mother and wife, Garry went on to work with the Camden School System as a teachers aid for over 20 years where she was known as "Small and Mighty". She was stern but caring and was respected and loved by everyone who was graced with her presence. In 2004 she was honored by the Camden City School Borad for her years of service and devoted work towards the education the youth of Camden City Schools. On July 29, 2023, Geraldine was called home to reunite with her husband, Parents, Brother, and great Grandson Mathews. As she lovingly rests in the arms of her heavenly Father, her memory will be cherished by her children: Valerie, Melvina, Melvin, Darrell, and Anton. Her Grandchildren, Tameka, Tanya, Takenya, James, Isha, Darrell Jr., Melvin, Mathew, and Kyle. She also leaves behind 18 great grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grand Children, and 4 Aunts Ola Mae, Connie, Theola and Rebecca and a host of loving cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
