Obituary of Willie Dolph Thompson

Willie Dolph Thompson was born October 3, 1925 to the late Joseph Thompson, Sr. and Mary Graham Thompson, the first of Thirteen Children. After living a full life devoted to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, he departed his earthly home on August 30, 2012. Known by so many names as, Deacon Thompson, he was the epitome of a deacon for over 60 years. Deacon Thompson received his formal education in the public school system in Oberlin, Louisiana. He came to New Jersey in November 1943 while serving in the U.S. Navy as a radio technician, stock clerk and 3rd class cook. He was honorably discharged in February 1946. He later moved to Philadelphia, Pa and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. Numerous letters of outstanding customer service and appreciation are included in his official file. Deacon Thompson joined Resurrection Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Pa where he met and fell in love with Alma Blake. They were joined in holy matrimony on December 6, 1947. He faithfully served on the coir, as a Sunday School Teacher, prayer band and trustee. He was ordained as a deacon in 1951 by the late Reverend John L. Jenkins. He served as chairman of the Deacon Board for over 20 years under Reverend Jenkins and the late Reverend Claudis Amaker. Deacon Thompson moved to Sicklerville, NJ in 1976. He joined CCU Baptist Church in 1987 where he continued to serve as Chairman of the Deacon Board for 6 years, an advisor for 10 years, trained deacons and played a vital role in deacon's ordination services. He was a man of impeccable character, had gentle spirit and a generous heart. "Putting everything in God's hands", he leaves a testimony of steadfast faith in Christ Jesus and a relentless posture of worship through his illness. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Alma Thompson, two children, Willie Thompson, Jr. (Belinda) of Greensboro, NC; Jacqueline Omowale (Manu) of Philadelphia, Pa; four grandchildren: Monesha Thompson of Greensboro, NC; Tamika Bain (Kenneth) of High Point, NC; Sean Thompson of Greensboro, NC and Ifetayo Omowale-Garey of Philadelphia, Pa. Six brothers Joseph, Jr. Willie L., harry and Clarence of Stockton, CA: Leon of Oberlin, LA and Henry of Los Angeles, CA. Three sisters; Fannie Mae Thomas and Ruby Miller of Oberlin, LA; Ernestine Atkins of Stockton, CA. 7 sisters-in-law, i brother-in-law, 13 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
