son of the late John Henry and Nanie Lizzie Butler departed this life on April 16, 2012.
George was born on September 17, 1934 in Grandville, NC. At an early age he moved with his family to Cinnaminson, NJ, where he attended Palmyra High School and Bordentown Manual Training School. He attended Camden County Vocational School receiving a certificate in Electric Welding in March 1954. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for over four years achieving the rank of Fireman Apprentice. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and his last tour of duty was on the U.S.S. Kirkpatrick.
After his service in the Navy, George started at the Atco Mobile Field Office Company in Berlin, NJ (currently Williams Scotsman) in 1958 where he worked for 50 years, retiring in October 2008 as Vice President of Maintenance Engineering.
George was married to the late Pricilla Anne Williams and from this union they had one daughter Robin Antoinette Butler. In 1970, George married Joanne Self and from that union they have one daughter Tambra Jean Butler.
George was an avid gardener. He took pride in watching his crops grow and maintaining his yard. His favorite sports were football and golf. During his retirement he loved to watch classic westerns and soap operas (General Hospital in particular). He maintained his interest in the U.S. Navy and the transformation of the surface Navy from the time of his enlistment.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Joanne, two daughters Robin Butler-Thomas of Vienna, VA and Tambra Butler of Atco, NJ; and one son-in-law, CAPT Albert A. Thomas, USN (Ret.); three grandchildren, Albert Jr. Courtney and Tamara; three sisters Daisy Ann, Nan Jefferson (Thomas), and Corene; one brother Henry (Sheila); five sisters-in-law, Betty (Elwood), Anna, Otelia (Richard), Mamie (Roger), and Fay (Kenneth). In addition he leaves behind a mother-in-law, Dollie Mae Self and an aunt, Esther Winston and a host of other relatives and friends.
