Please share a memory of Roscoe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
A TIME TO BE BORN - After 75 years of making us laugh, bringing us joy and sharing his love, ROSCOE NAVARROW WRIGHT accepted God's call to be absent from the body and be present with the Lord on Sunday, June 19, 2011. The youngest of nine children, Roscoe was born to the late John and Anna Wright on January 7, 1936 at Virtua (formerly Mt. Holly Hospital).
A TIME OF LEARNING - Roscoe was raised in Burlington, NJ where he attended the Burlington Public Schools. He attended Sunday school at the Christ Baptist Church (formerly Second Baptist Church, Burlington, NJ) with his siblings under the pastorate of the late Rev. W.I. Wright. Years late, he became a member of the church under the pastorate of Rev. Frederick C. Johnson.
A TIME OF REJOICING - A happy fun loving guy, Roscoe enjoyed music and taught himself to play the drums. He later played for the Drum & Bugle Corp Marching Band and traveled extensively throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Roscoe was also active with the Boy Scouts under the direction of the late Fred Porter and Howard Moore. He was gifted with his hands and learned to master carpentry, remodeling kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, building cabinets, furniture, decks, etc. After his tour of duty in the Air Force, he received an Honorable Discharge and became employed with General Motors in Trenton, NJ, until his retirement as a forklift operator.
A TIME TO LOVE - Roscoe's oldest daughter, Darlene Ervin was born after his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force. Years later, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Carol Ann Streater Wright. From this union three children were born, Dee Ann, Navarrow and Daryl Wright. Darlene was devoted to her father, sharing a very special father-daughter relationship, with daily talks on the telephone, morning coffee in her kitchen and lunch dates together. She was always at his side for doctor's appointment and to support him and his wife Jane whenever needed.
LATER A COURTSHIP rekindled and he married Lola Jane Harris (they attended her high school prom together in 1957). Roscoe and Janie enjoyed celebrating holidays and cook-outs with their children, family and friends. Roscoe loved traveling and crusing to the Caribbean with close friends. Fondly called Pop Pop by the L7J Sandbox Day Care kids, you could also hear him hollering to the kids to stop "ripping and running." John, Allen, Katlin, Mare', Ray, Hannah, Ahmad and Jimmy gave him many happy hours as they continued ripping and running.
A TIME TO SERVE - At the invitation of his nieces Carol and Francine, Roscoe began visiting the Evergreen Baptist Church and spoke often of how much he enjoyed Rev. Campbell's message. Within a short time, he united with Evergreen on his Christian experience and with renewed dedication diligently had a thirst and hunger for the Word of God. Roscoe attended Bible Study reguarly and became involved in the life of the church He was so happy being a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church; he joined the Men's Chorus and later was appointed their president. He served on the Senior and male usher board #2, and was appointed to the Trustee Board. Even after his illness he continued to encourage the men of the male and others. When asked to make Kneeling Pews for St. Mary Street United Methodist Church, he asked God to help him in spite of his breathing difficulties, removed his oxygen, and began his work. He made the pews within two weeks and was so thankful to God for being faithful to his endeavor.
A TIME TO SAY GOOD-BYE - In addition to his parents, Roscoe is predeceased by siblings, John, Charles, Leroy, Dorothy, Pearl and Anna Mae. He leaves to joyfully remember his life a devoted wife, Lola Jane, children; Darlene Ervin of Lawrenceville, NJ, Dee Ann Wright of Trenton, NJ, Navarrow (Rita) of Mt.
