Obituary of Barbara Jo Briley

Barbara Jo Briley was born and raised in Anson County, North Carolina, the daughter of Almetta Sturdivant and the late Bennie Lee Sturdivant. She departed this life on Friday, February 5, 2021.
Barbara married Joe Briley and moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey where they began their union.
Barbara attended Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) and graduated in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education. She furthered her education career by teaching at Massachusetts Avenue School in Atlantic City. Barbara later on was a Day One employee at Sands Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, as a security officer. She then went on to drive for New Jersey Transit for 38 years, until her retirement in 2014.
Barbara was a longtime faithful member of Second Baptist Church where she sang with the Inspirational Choral Ensemble for 40 years. She was also a member of the Transportation Ministry, often serving as a driver for the church van and buses. She dutifully gave of her time to the Sunday School Department, having served as treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Briley; her father, Bennie Lee Sturdivant; her sister, Bessie Rorie; and two nieces, Carol Sturdivant and Yukita Kendall.
She leaves to cherish fondest memories her mother, Almetta Sturdivant; her children and the loves of her life, Terri Ramseur, Tonya Floyd (Malcolm) and Bryan Briley (Ebony); her “Day One” and best friend, Patricia Ashe; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; her siblings, Rose Nivens, Arnetha (James), Priscilla, Rainey (James), Kathy (Ross), Johnny Frank (Rose), and Jerry Lee (Brenda); and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
